The massive rise in unsolicited junk e-mail messages is taking its toll on the online world, with 60 per cent of users saying spam has reduced their e-mail use "in a big way", according to research released this week by the Pew Internet & America Life Project, part of the Pew Research Center, a Washington DC think-tank.
Deborah Fallows, author of the report, said data from a national survey suggest spam is "beginning to undermine the integrity of e-mail and to degrade the online experience".
