"Saturday July 03, 2004: The Pennsylvania House of Representatives today approved a House resolution sponsored by Rep. John D. Payne (R-Dauphin) encouraging Congress to award the Congressional Medal of Honor to Dick Winters.
Winters of Hershey was one of the inspirations behind Stephen Ambrose’s acclaimed novel and mini-series "Band of Brothers," which tells the tales of E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, of the U.S. Army during World War II. In addition to being the commander of the company, Winters is a Korean War veteran.
"Dick should have received this medal 60 years ago," Payne said. "It’s time, no it’s past time, to give him the medal that he earned during the D-Day invasion. I’m pleased my House colleagues unanimously endorsed this resolution.""
