Johnson Retires: "Successful England captain Martin Johnson has confirmed recent media speculation by stepping down from Test rugby with immediate effect. The Leicester Tigers lock forward will, however, continue playing club rugby.
In typical Martin Johnson fashion, the England hard man - who led his side to the Rugby World Cup in Australia last year, after capturing the Six Nations Grand Slam earlier in the year - issued a brief statement at the press conference after Saturday's Heineken Cup clash against Irish province Ulster.
'After talking to my family and friends, and after a lot of thought, I have decided to retire from international rugby with immediate effect,' read the statement.
'This has not been an easy decision to make.
'It has been a privilege to play for England, alongside some great players and with a great coaching staff.
'It has, of course, been a massive honour for me to captain my country."
